    ITALY: ADM, Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency, claims to have uncovered and seized nearly 500 tonnes of illegal refrigerant last year. An independent agency within the Italian Ministry of Finance, ADM is responsible for securing and managing customs revenue, monitoring imports, transit and exports. It has been responsible for a number of large seizures of HFC refrigerants.

    BELGIUM: Livio Mazzarella has been appointed president of REHVA, the federation of European heating, ventilation and air conditioning associations. Mazzarella, a professor at the Politecnico di Milano in the field of HVAC, renewable energy to applied thermodynamics, replaces Catalin Lungu, whose term of office came to an end at the federation’s AGM this week. Having been involved in REHVA activities for more than 15 years, Mazzarella will serve as president for the next three years.

    USA/TURKEY: Italian controls manufacturer Carel has announced two key leadership appointments within its group companies Senva Inc and CFM Sogutma. Roberto Sandano has been appointed managing director of Senva Inc, the US-based manufacturer of HVAC sensors headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, while Maurizio Pennetti has taken on the role of MD of building management systems company CFM, Carel’s Turkish subsidiary. Sandano was previously Carel’s group chief sales and marketing officer.

    USA/CANADA: A recall has been issued on 1.7 million window air conditioners manufactured by Midea and sold in the US and Canada due to concerns over potential mould growth.  This recall involves U and U+ window air conditioners made by Midea and sold in the USA and Canada under brand names including Midea, Comfort Aire, Danby, Frigidaire, Insignia, Keystone, LBG Products, Mr Cool, Perfect Aire and Sea Breeze. They were sold in three sizes: 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000BTU.

The LFB Group is the new umbrella name for the Lennox (HVAC) and Friga-Bohn (refrigeration) businesses. Engineered to fill a need for scalable, efficient cooling amid rising AI workloads, compute density and global edge deployments, the new Lennox-branded FWU is said to deliver a space-optimised, modular solution that grows alongside the data centre.
