A man’s body has been found at a property in Sunderland with two people arrested in connection with the incident. The man was discovered at around 11.30pm on Wednesday (June 25) at a property on West Moor Road. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of concern for the welfare of a man in his 60s at an address on West Moor Road in Sunderland. “Sadly, the man was located deceased upon emergency services arrival.

A former deputy head teacher who bit and slapped a child has been spared a teaching ban following the outcome of a teacher disciplinary hearing. Miss Claire Herbert, who worked at Red Rose Primary School in Chester-Le-Street, went before the professional conduct panel after being accused of getting into a physical altercation with a child which included biting, scratching and slapping the youngster.

Northumbria Police’s decision to dispose of documents relating to the miners strike and the so called Battle of Orgreave has been described by the leader of the House of Commons, Lucy Powell, as “deeply worrying”. Ms Powell made the statement after Northumbria Police confirmed in April 2024 the Force disposed of two boxes linked to the strikes.
