A woman jumped out of her company’s head office, aggressively pushed the door closed, and quickly turned the lock shut. Her eyes darted left then right. She appeared on the verge of panic. I was standing in front of our offices, just next door. She ran up to me and in a high, nervous voice asked “what are you doing?” “Taking a few staff photos,” I said. Her voice ratcheted up a notch. “No! You can’t show our office door. You can’t do that.”I gestured to the photographer to lower his lens.

Rest day is here! The sort-of half-way point of the Dakar Rally is often considered the make-it-or-break-it point for a lot of riders, and after finishing the second half of the marathon stage today, riders are getting a much-needed break on Friday. The second half of the marathon stage is always a challenge even if the first half went well, with no major damage to repair.

The global shifting of manufacturing, brands and products between financial power players continues, with news that Goodyear has sold off most of what’s left of its Dunlop tire business to Sumitomo. This should not come as a terrible shock to any industry insider, as Sumitomo Rubber Industries has already been controlling the at least some of the Dunlop tire brand for motorcycles since 2015.
