The first song on the opening night of Steven Wilson 's week of gigs at the London Palladium lasted 24 minutes, an extended space operatic suite of intricately interlocking parts, furious drums, wilds guitar solos and florid synths. The second equally complex shapeshifting piece of burbling electronica, odd time signatures and mesmeric rock attack clocked in at around 19 minutes.

A stop start time switching 1970s musical pastiche performed by a close harmony girl group of British country singers with a background in musical theatre and credited to seven different writers including a couple of Danes… It can only be this year’s UK entry to the Eurovision. Performed by trio Remember Monday, the song is called What The Hell Just Happened? and that was pretty much my first reaction.

They have no real presence as actual pop performers despite the gushingly enthusiastic support of Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills. But the trio do have a decent social media following, with over a million TikTok views for elegantly performed tight harmony countryfied cover versions of famous pop songs by the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Shania Twain and (pertinently) Queen.

"Take your mind off me," pleads Win Butler on the title track of Arcade's Fire seventh album, Pink Elephant. He wishes. With a tone of fragile hopelessness, Butler and his Canadian-US ensemble grind and clank like a group of shoegaze goths with bad hangovers before dissolving into a sad synthy void. Went to see @tomhickox. He's such an idiosyncratic talent, following his own curious path, beyond trends. He's a throwback to a classic singer songwriter era of the 70s, when artists like Randy Newman and Tom Waits shaped songs as reflections of their unique personalities. https://t.co/9JjavlXu39

Massively enjoyed speaking to Skin from @SkunkAnansie. So refreshing to interview a pop star unafraid to speak her mind. I also uncovered her strange connection to Elon Musk. https://t.co/wmVHOWvMXq
