    The Johnson County commissioners are the latest government officials to sound the alarm on property tax legislation that is moving through the Indiana Statehouse. The commissioners approved a resolution Monday to oppose a provision in Senate Bill 1 to eliminate taxes on business personal property by 2033 without replacement revenue.

    Rivers have receded, and Edinburgh and southern Johnson County are getting back to normal. Although Irwin Park is still closed, there were no fatalities and no reports of major damage from the flooding in Johnson County, said Stephanie Sichting, director of the county’s Emergency Management Agency. As of Thursday afternoon, both the Big Blue River and Driftwood River reached slightly below the “Action” stage, which means water is higher than normal, but no longer at flood stage.

    The Whiteland Town Council had a public spat over its president’s alleged unauthorized meeting on employee performance. In a contentious town council meeting Tuesday, Whiteland Police Chief Rick Shipp said council president Richard Hill gave him directives to enforce parking violations and made him feel reprimanded. Council member Joe Sayler says Hill’s directives were a violation of town ordinance and possibly the state’s Open Door Law.

    A series of projects on Interstate 65 will expand the roadway and improve safety on the southeast side of Indianapolis. Starting as early as May, the Indiana Department of Transportation will be working on the I-65 Safety & Efficiency project. The $112.7 million project will last roughly two years and span about 5 miles from north of Interstate 465 to just south of the I-65/Interstate 70 overpass.

    A flavorful new addition is now open for Johnson County pizza lovers. Madaan’s KK Pizza opened March 27 off of U.S. 31 in Amity— filling the space previously occupied by Arthur’s Roto Grill. Owners Shweta Khanna and Gaurav Madaan, residents of Franklin Township in Indianapolis, have crafted a menu that blends traditional pizza favorites with more adventurous tastes. The new eatery offers original, thin and cauliflower crust, and plans to introduce a cheese-burst pizza with cheese in the crust.
