RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The Rutherford County School Board is facing a $6.1 million shortfall for the coming 2025 school year. To try and bridge the gap in the budget, school board is considering closing between one and three schools. The schools are Mt. Vernon-Ruth Elementary School, Rutherford Early College High School, and Rutherford Opportunity Center. Jeff Cantrell taught within the Rutherford County Schools education system from 2020 to 2023.

JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — In a four to one vote, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved the plan to withdraw from the Fontana Regional Library system. The Fontana system includes the libraries in Swain and Macon counties. Dozens gathered at the justice center in Sylva for a special called meeting on Tuesday, June 24, in the evening.

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A motorcyclist is recovering after surviving a hit-and-run incident from Saturday, June 14, at the intersection of Ridge Road and Blue House Road in Hendersonville that left him with two broken legs. Weber says he was traveling south, on Ridge Road, on a motorcycle when he and the unidentified driver collided. Weber suspects that the driver is operating in a ‘2012 Kia Forte,’ with the passenger side heavily damaged.

God’s Pit Crew is a disaster response team based out of Danville, Virginia. The nonprofit organization helps disaster-stricken communities through long-term recovery. On Wed., June 18, 2025, Allison and his father were gifted with a new two-bed and two-bathroom fully furnished home.
