The S5's adaptive suspension can be changed via various drive modes, though the Comfort, Balanced and Dynamic settings only add a touch more heft to the steering and firmness to the suspension. Regardless of mode, the S5's body roll is always kept in check, and the steering is accurate and direct. How do they stack up? The 2025 A5 starts at $50,995 after destination charges are applied and can be pushed to almost $59,000 when fully loaded.

Nissan's ProPilot Assist 2.1 is a hands-free driving assist system similar to Super Cruise. It's one of our favorites on the market, but the Leaf won't come with this version of the system. It will have to make do with the old version of ProPilot, which combines lane centering and adaptive cruise control and still demands you keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. How much do these EVs cost? The rear-wheel-drive Long Range Model Y starts at $46,630.

Both cars also get a slightly reworked interiors with some new ambient lighting strips along the doors and dash. Also, the lights in the footwell and door pockets can change colors. There's a new front-facing camera on the front bumper which should help with Tesla's still lidar-less suite of driver aids. This is one of our closest matchups yet. If you want an American performance car between $75,000 and $80,000, your options are relatively few. There is, of course, the Chevy Corvette, but if you need room for more than two people, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and Ford Mustang Dark Horse are your only options. The Cadillac uses a twin-turbocharged V6 with 472 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Thrust is strong in any gear, and the snappy shifts from the new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission allow you to enjoy the V6's surge of torque. The V6 is potent and makes a much sweeter noise than the standard Q5's four-cylinder. The S is more taut than the base Q5, and that's largely thanks to changes Audi made to the front suspension. The steering doesn’t give you a perfect sense of what your front tires are doing, but it’s accurate and precise off-center.
