Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Monday said that power generation in the country increased by about 30 per cent in 2024. Adelabu made the disclosure during his ministry’s 2025 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Power at the National Assembly complex. He said that when he assumed the leadership of the ministry in 2023, he met an average of 4,100 megawatts of power generation.

The ousted National Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, on Monday, resumed duty at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, in defiance of the court orders which had removed him from office. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a High Court and Court of Appeal had removed Anyanwu from office and recognised Sunday Udey-Okoye as the party’s national secretary.

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a 25-year old man, Olajide Fajana, to life imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl. Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, while delivering judgement on the case, convicted and sentenced the convict of the charge of rape. “The inevitable conclusion in the circumstance is that the guilt of the defendant had been established beyond reasonable doubt, thus necessitating his conviction.

The police command in Ogun has arrested Mrs Fatimah Odeale, who inflicted razor blade wounds on a 10-year-old boy, Olasunkanmi Oluwadamilare, for allegedly stealing N600. The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday. Odutola explained that a delegation from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Obada Oko, Abeokuta, led by the Coordinator, Moses Olagbegi, reported the incident on Monday.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has banned scavengers from operating in the territory. The Commissioner of Police in FCT, Olatunji Disu announced the ban while briefing newsmen after the FCT Security Committee Meeting in Abuja on Monday. Disu said that the scavengers were allowed to operate only on dumpsites located in the outskirts of the city and the suburbs. “All security agencies have been tasked with ensuring that this order is enforced, beginning from Jan. 14,” he said.
