With the news that Kalyn Ponga is out of Origin III with a serious foot injury, the stakes today are even higher for Reece Walsh. A big game could earn the Broncos flyer a Queensland recall for the decider - Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has his own chance to stake a case when the Dolphins play Souths later today (at the same ground, no less!) but one would imagine Walsh is in the box seat. He's been strong in his two matches since returning from injury while still not being close to full fitness.

Hey everyone, it's Thursday night, the footy's on and we're going to take you through every step of the way. We've got a beauty to kick off the weekend's NRL action - Panthers vs Bulldogs from Parramatta Stadium. It's been a shaky season for Penrith but they've won their last three and their victory last week over the Warriors felt like a real return to form.

Right now, Penrith is the picture of success in rugby league, and no team has tried to replicate that image as precisely as Canterbury. It's not just because, between Stephen Crichton, Viliame Kikau, Matt Burton, coach Cameron Ciraldo, and general manager Phil Gould, the Bulldogs have enough Panthers alumni that their clash on Thursday night could double as a reunion. It's not just the success either, as impressive as it has been thus far.

— AAPToday's clash between the Warriors and Panthers marks the first time an NRL team has been forced to travel to Auckland within a week of an Origin match in Perth. Perth's previous two Origin matches were held on a Sunday in 2019 and 2022, with Penrith and Wests Tigers enjoying a seven-day turnaround before playing across the ditch in those cases.

New South Wales can handle Queensland; that much seems certain. But in Perth, they lost the chance to wrap up the State of Origin series because they could not handle themselves. A first half like a nightmare and a second half like a dream equals out to a head-scratcher. The Blues will be favourites to win the decider and they can beat Queensland, but they can’t do it if they’re beating themselves at the same time.

Wrote about Josh Papalii, the last player the Raiders will ever have who is older than me. Doesn't have anything to do with him breaking the appearances record but I've been thinking about it a lot. https://t.co/SRy6YNZ2wW

In the lead up to his last match against Nathan Cleary, Jarome Luai said there were no friends on the field "only brothers and enemies." Can't wait for this one. https://t.co/v421g5l4dR
