A drunken driver attacked a neighbour in an act of “cowardice” after the man complained about his parking. Brian Henderson was jailed at Leeds Crown Court this week, but was released owing to time already served held on remand. The 44-year-old was found guilty after a trial in February of causing Section 20 GBH without intent. He was returned to court this week for sentencing. The court heard that Henderson had been drunk but was behind the wheel, on November 29, 2022.

Police raided a property on a suburban Leeds street, recovering thousands of pounds in cash and drugs worth even more. Daniel Wooffitt and Kai Nelson both escaped an immediate jail sentence at Leeds Crown Court this week. Acting on a tip-off, police targeted the home of Wooffitt on Ingleton Drive, Halton, around lunchtime on October 18, 2023. They found Wooffitt and Nelson in the living room of the house and quickly arrested them, prosecutor Katy Welford told the court.

A jury has failed to reach a verdict on whether a prisoner attempted to murder notorious child killer Roy Whiting in his cell. The jury at Leeds Crown Court deliberated almost five hours but failed to agree on whether Andrew Light intended to kill Whiting, who escaped with minor injuries. He stabbed him multiple times with a makeshift knife as he was laid on his cell bed. Light had already admitted a charge of GBH with intent, albeit partway through his week-long trial.

A machete-wielding thug described as a “good kid” attacked woman who was looking after a disabled man at a Leeds home. Teenager Vlad Tapu was high on cannabis when he let himself into the property in Hyde Park and began punching the female, demanding money. He smashed a TV and damaged other items with the machete while the terrified resident could hear the commotion taking place from his bed. The 19-year-old later admitted robbery and ABH and was jailed at Leeds Crown Court today.
