PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. - An 87-year-old Deer Park woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 2, eight miles south of Newport. According to Washington State Patrol (WSP), Nancy L. Strand was killed on May 28 when her 2016 Subaru Forester crashed into a 2019 Toyota Prius driven by Nelson L. Antoniuk, 58, of Nine Mile Falls. The crash occurred at 8:32 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and Farrs Lane.

KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Mineral Ridge Trail is a 3.3-mile loop overlooking Beauty and Wolf Lodge bays on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Built in 1962, it was the BLM’s first developed recreation site in Idaho and is now a designated National Recreation Trail. Interpretive signs at 22 points along the trail highlight local plants, wildlife, and forest ecology. From November to February, up to 150 bald eagles visit to feed on kokanee salmon, with peak viewing and programs offered around Christmas.

WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. — A man convicted of second-degree rape was sentenced to life in prison Monday after a Whitman County judge rejected his request for alternative sentencing. According to the Whiteman County Prosecuting Attorney, Davis Eneas sought a Special Sex Offender Sentencing Alternative (SSOSA) that would have allowed his release into the community after serving up to 365 days in county jail, followed by up to five years of sex offender treatment.
