Popular Saudi Arabian actor and stand-up comic Ibrahim Al Hajjaj’s new comedy “Ambulance,” directed by British helmer Colin Teague (“Doctor Who,” “Torchwood”), is already set for a sequel with the same creative team. “Ambulance” opened on Tuesday, becoming Imax’s first Arabic feature film release. It marks Al Hajjaj’s follow-up to 2023 wrestling movie “Sattar,” which pulled more than $30 million, mostly from local markets.

Italian director Alice Rohrwacher, whose works “The Wonders,” “Happy as Lazzaro” and “La Chimera” competed in Cannes, will preside over the jury for the Cannes Film Festival‘s Caméra d’Or prize. The award is given to a first work across the official selection as well as in the Critics’ Week and Directors’ Fortnight sections. “First times are always important and they stay with us for the rest of our lives,” Rohrwacher said in a statement.

Paramount+ is expanding its footprint in Japan through a deal with prominent local streamer Lemino, operated by Japan’s top telco NTT Docomo. The non-exclusive agreement will give Japanese viewers access to Paramount+ via Lemino Channel, which will be available as an à la carte subscription on the platform for a monthly fee of 770 yen ($5.40).

Saudi director and producer Osama Al Khurayji’s debut feature “Siwar” has been selected as the opening film of the upcoming Saudi Film Festival, which is the oldest-running film event in the kingdom. The film was primarily shot in AlUla, the swathe of northwest Saudi Arabia comprising ancient artifacts, a lush oasis and sandstone canyons that’s becoming a burgeoning local film production hub.
