Food and travel series including Channel 4’s A New Life in the Sun have been acquired by broadcasters across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Antenna Entertainment has bought seasons one and two (50×60′) of True North production A New Life in the Sun for its AXA Spin channels in Poland, Romania and around the Adriatic. In Poland, it has also taken S7-8 of Château DIY (70×60′), another Channel 4 show, made by Spark Media Partners.

SXSW: Arthouse cinema streamer Mubi is developing its first original TV series, having recently been valued at US$1bn and making a splash in Cannes with its acquisition of Jennifer Lawrence movie Die My Love. Mubi founder and CEO Efe Cakarel revealed the move into original series during SXSW London today, where he discussed the streamer’s success catering to demand for curated entertainment from around the world.

The BBC in the UK and RTÉ in Ireland have co-commissioned two seasons of Tall Tales & Murder, based on the eight-book Dublin Trilogy by Caimh McDonnell. BBC Northern Ireland and RTÉ are both on board two six-part seasons (12×60′) of the show, which is produced by Avalon (Breeders) in association with Ireland-based Metropolitan Pictures (Kin).

China Media Group (CMG) has broadcast what it claims to be the world’s first humanoid robot fighting competition, with viewers outside of China able to watch on YouTube. Dubbed the Mech Combat Arena Competition, it took place in Hangzhou City earlier this week, showcasing robots performing martial arts moves learned from motion-captured fighters.
