The Shedeur Sanders saga extracted most of the oxygen from the NFL Draft apparatus over the weekend, and rightfully so. But Sanders’ fifth-round selection wasn’t the only notable slide for a big-name quarterback. Quinn Ewers, the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns in back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances, came off the board even later. He didn’t hear his name called until the seventh round, when he went 231st overall to the Miami Dolphins.

The best guard in the country was held scoreless for 25 minutes. He didn’t make a field goal until fewer than eight minutes remained in the game. The Gators turned the ball over nine times in the first half alone and trailed by 12 points early in the second half. And yet. Somehow, some way, Florida found a way to come all the way back with its season on the brink. Florida found a way to take a lead in the final minute after not having a lead since the game’s fourth minute of the first half.

Bueckers is so synonymous with UConn — how could this already be the end of her illustrious college career? But at the same time, of course it’s time for her to finally move on to the WNBA.
