1. IntroductionAdvanced biliary tract cancer (BTC) represents a relatively rare, heterogeneous group of cancers, consisting of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), including intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (eCCA), and gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) (Figure 1). Globally, iCCA accounts for 10–20% of BTC, eCCA represents 20–30%, and GBC makes up the bulk of BTC at 50–60% [1,2].
