    HONOLULU (KHON2) — Kilauea is active once again as the 18th episode of the current eruption began early Tuesday morning. “Lava began overflowing the south vent at 3:20 a.m.,” the USGS said in a statement. Fountaining began shortly after from both the north and south vents, with fountains over 650 feet high at the south and over 160 feet high at the north vent. The floor of Halema’uma’u crater is currently 20% covered fed from both fountains, as deflation commenced and strong tremors increased.

The order came from President Trump after the Vatican announced the death of the pope, who was 88. “Pope Francis was a beacon of compassion, humility, and service,” said Governor Green in a statement.

The incident happened as police pursued a man that was wanted for shooting at a man then later shooting and killing a 25-year-old woman in Puna–the sister of his ex-girlfriend.

    HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — The man who was found guilty of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a teenager in 2022 was sentenced on Friday morning. Prior to sentencing Duncan Mahi, Judge Wendy Deweese said that she had reviewed the investigation and found that “the behavior described in the pre-sentence investigation and by the victims, evidence is that your actions were planned and predatory and not spur-of-the-moment driven by your drug use,” the judge told Mahi.
