App helps Iowa restaurants share culture and cuisine with customers

Tin Lam is the creator of the app EatFuti. It's not a typical delivery company because Lam's team works with local restaurants to customize their page with specialized descriptions and professional photography for dishes. Lam's background is in IT and website development. During the pandemic, some businesses he had worked with reached out for help. The app started with a few restaurants, and 150 are now on board across the state.He feels grateful watching his business grow.
Dancers with special needs capture hearts at recital in Carroll

A dance recital at Carroll Recreation Center captured the hearts of many. A group of dancers with special needs took part in the four-minute performance. Since September of last year, 25 dancers have been busy learning new moves. The group got together two to three times a month for rehearsal. Months of hard work led up to the big day. "I'm nervous about going to dance because it will be the first time and the hardest time," Kimberly Magner, a dancer, said.

Iowa woman completes 5K run since cancer diagnosis

At 31 years old, Christina Crowley loves to stay active. That changed last year on Aug. 29."My cancer is different than some other cancer journeys. I got sent to the ER and started chemo immediately," Crowley said. Crowley started a blog about her battle against lymphoma. She shared that some days were tough. "It was pretty terrible. Just feeling so sick to be stuck on the couch, even just feeling helpless to help out around the house and needing a lot of support," Crowley said.
Artist of Des Moines mural shocked to find it was painted over

A mural that showed civil rights activist John Lewis and the message "Black Lives Matter" on Sixth and University avenues was recently painted over. It has been there since 2020. The owner of the building says she received countless calls and comments about the decision to paint over the mural. She says people were tearing up the space, making it hard to maintain. Her family is now trying to sell the building, which is why they painted over the artwork.

Bing the Great Dane from Newton made it onto the silver screen, starring in a new movie called The Friend. The film features actors such as Bill Murray and Naomi Watts. The 150-pound Great Dane is named Apollo in the film.Bing's handler Bev Klingensmith says knowing commands was a big part of his role."It was general obedience and a lot of his temperament, kind of being unflappable around the cameras and the people and the noise," she explained.
