A Central Iowa robotics team is headed to Texas to compete against hundreds of teams from around the world. Atomic Narwhals is made up of 14 seventh through 12th-grade students from multiple metro schools. They've spent dozens of hours building and programming robots since September. All the planning and practicing come down to a two-and-a-half-minute competition. The goal is to drop as many blocks in a bin or hang a block on a bar to score as many points as possible.

A person was hurt after an apartment fire Friday night in West Des Moines. West Des Moines Fire Department crews say they were called to the apartment at 9th Street around 11:20 p.m. Friday. Crews saw smoke from the building and found a person inside the affected unit. That person was taken to the hospital witThe fire didn't affect other units in the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damages are estimated to be $50,000.
