Oscar Piastri set a mighty lap to head McLaren team-mate Lando Norris in final practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. Piastri beat Norris by half a second as McLaren underlined they have not been affected by the FIA's flexi-wing clampdown which was expected to alter the pecking order. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was third but 0.743s down on pace-setter Piastri, who leads Norris by three points in the Drivers' Championship.

The FIA announced in January that more stringent flexibility tests on front wings would be introduced from the ninth round of the season in Spain. In short, flexible bodywork is outlawed in F1 but there is a tolerance.

Pole-sitter Norris controlled the race and overcame the jeopardy of two mandatory tyre changes to win for the first time since the season-opener in Australia and cut his deficit to championship leader Oscar Piastri to three points.

Lewis Hamilton crashed out of final practice after Charles Leclerc was fastest ahead of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton hit the wall hard at Turn 3 on the approach to Casino Square with two minutes remaining and brought the session to an early end. A slow Mercedes and Haas may have caught Hamilton out as his Ferrari would have been affected by dirty air.
