Last year’s beaten finalists were 15 points ahead in the 40th minute but Armagh showed tremendous character to cut the deficit to one. Time was against them as Waterford were able to hold on.

    Waterford FC return to the grindstone that is the League Of Ireland Premier Division on Friday night, traveling to face Drogheda at Weavers Park. Their last league outing was a loss to Galway, but since then the Blues beat Cockhill Celtic in the second round of the FAI Cup and are now safe for round three where they will face Athlone Town next month. Prior to the Galway loss, the Blues had fallen into a trend of winning a few games, before losing one.

    The County Senior Hurling Championship is into it's second weekend, with the Champions set to dust off the cobwebs as they begin the defence of their title with knockout games starting to emerge down in the Junior grades. ThursdayThe East of the county hosts three Junior Hurling Games. A Junior A Group B meeting will see Roanmore facing Mount Sion. Roanmore occupy top spot with two wins in two outings, while Mount Sion have played and lost one. In Junior C there are two group B games.

    Sport The Waterford Women's and Schoolgirls' league have a chance of lifting silverware this afternoon in Arklow. They take on the Eastern Women's Football League in the Angela Hearst final. This will be a first appearance for the Waterford league in the decider in what is their first year in the competition. Tommy Butler's side were emphatic winners in their semi-final against Mayo, winning 3 goals to nil. Nicole Bennet, Becky Conroy and co-captain Lisa Dower scored the goals that day.

    Sport Waterford FC put the league to bed for a week with the FAI Cup taking centre stage this weekend. The Blues will be hoping to keep up their good form in the competition, having reached the semi-finals twice in the past three seasons. Nine finals have been graced by Waterford, with the first appearance stretching back as far as 1936 when they won the first of their two titles, with the 1980 success being the most recent feather in the cap.
