WLR FM

WLR FM, also known as WLR (Waterford Local Radio), serves the community of Waterford City and County in Ireland. Recognized as Ireland's Local Station of the Year for four consecutive years—2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022—WLR has established a strong presence. Besides its primary coverage area, the station is also popular in South County Kilkenny and East County Cork. Since receiving its license from the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland in 1989, WLR transitioned from its earlier days as a pirate radio station to a fully licensed broadcaster.

    The financial position of Waterford City and County Council continued to improve in 2024. There was a surplus of €313K achieved, which increased the cumulative general reserve to €472,000. 2023 was the first year since the Merger in 2014 that there was a positive general reserve reported. Overall income increased by €24 million to almost €204 million in 2024 versus 2023, a 13.5% increase. The figures were broken down at yesterday's Plenary sitting of the local authority in Dungarvan.

    Investigations are ongoing in Tramore following what Gardaí have described as an assault, which occurred in the Beech Park area of the town. Last night shortly before 7pm, Gardaí responded to reports of an incident involving young males. A male youth, aged 17, was injured in the course of the incident and taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of his injuries. It's understood that a knife, described as a machete-type implement, was used in the course of the assault.
