Confusion reigned in the banking industry yesterday as some banks restricted access to bank accounts not linked to the National Identity Number, as directed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. The CBN had in a circular on December 1st 2023, directed that banks should place restrictions on all Tier 1 bank accounts without BVN. Tier 1 accounts are accounts that can be opened with a valid identity or proof of address.

The Oyo North senatorial candidate of Accord Party during the 2023 general elections, Shina Abiola Peller has joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo state. The Office of the National Security Adviser has said the Federal Government is investigating the operations of Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange company. Financial Times had on Wednesday reported that two executives of the company were arrested and detained by the Nigerian government. The international news platform stated that the executives flew into the country last week following a ban on their website.
