Peatlands project brought long term benefits for people and planet – with more on way - Herald.Wales

A TOTAL of £263,309 in funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund has been awarded to the Lost Peatlands Connections project which will build on the success of the Lost Peatlands of South Wales project, which ended earlier this year. The funding will allow Neath Port Talbot Council and partners to develop plans and apply for a full National Lottery grant at a later stage, which could see further activity on the project up to 2029.

NEATH Port Talbot Council’s Dewch i Sgwrsio – Let’s Talk campaign has been launched at Eisteddfod Dur a Mȏr Parc Margam a’r Fro 2025. The campaign signposts residents to opportunities and resources to use and learn Welsh. It is part of the council’s wider effort to promote the Welsh language, aligning with its Welsh Language Promotion Strategy and the Welsh Language Standards.

THE WELSH Government is helping to deliver more much-needed social housing after agreeing the sale of plots of land in Swansea. The plots, known as D5B and D9B, have been sold to housing associations who will develop them to bring forward 69 new social homes. Plot D5B has been purchased by Pobl, who will build 35 apartments and eight houses on the site. Plot D9B has been purchased by Beacon Cymru, who plan to develop the land to provide 26 social homes.

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has expressed concern for the livelihood of farmers in North-East Wales. Mr Rowlands, a keen support of the agricultural sector, was commenting after hearing about the potential implementation of the Climate Change Committee’s recommendation to reduce livestock numbers in Wales by nearly 20%.

AN IMPRESSIVE set of seven highly trained competitors from Wales will form part of Team UK at Europe’s largest skills competition this autumn. Making their way to EuroSkills Denmark in September, Team UK consists of 19 competitors from across the UK, with Wales making up approximately 37% of the team.
