Jake Morgan, director of community services, is leaving in a few weeks’ time to take up the chief executive job at Bridgend Council.     THE CHAIRMAN of Wales Rugby League (WRL) called for a level-playing field, warning the sport has been systematically underfunded for years. James Davies, a former under-19s international who took the helm of WRL in 2023, said a lack of funding has long hindered the growth of the sport. Mr Davies argued rugby league, which receives only £47,023 a year compared with six- and seven-figure sums for other sports, has been systemically underfunded.

    OSPREYS have returned to Gilestone Farm after scuppering ministers’ £4.25m plans, casting a shadow over the future of the site as a long-term decision looms. Welsh ministers swooped to buy the farm in March 2022 as another home for the Green Man music festival, with the aim of supporting growth of the creative sector in Wales. But the plans were scrapped in early 2024 after a pair of ospreys were discovered, with ministers advised to establish a 750-metre restriction zone around their nest.

    AN ORDER requiring dog owners to pick up their pets’ mess and banning dogs from enclosed children’s play areas is to be renewed in Carmarthenshire. The public spaces protection order, as it’s known, also requires owners to put their dog on a lead when asked to do so by council officers when such restraint is reasonably necessary to prevent annoying or disturbing behaviour by the animal.

    AMENDED plans for a scheme to build three affordable homes in Ceredigion, to “align with the aesthetic and style established” from a previous development have been approved. Late last year, Teifi Valley Developments Ltd, in an outline application submitted to Ceredigion County Council, was given permission to build the affordable homes at Ardwyn, Croeslan.
