While many people in BC struggle to find affordable housing and try to keep up with the cost of living, Brent Frain says he and other people with disabilities are falling further behind. Frain was born with a visual impairment and is legally blind. He added he also has a learning disability. The 55-year-old lives in Victoria in a one-bedroom space with a roommate. However, he sleeps on a futon while the roommate uses the bedroom.

Canadian universities are increasingly looking towards fees from international students to boost revenues as people abroad pay exorbitant fees to study here. Since international students are receiving considerable attention in Canada this year, we wanted to examine the costs of Canadians studying abroad. In BC, for example, at the University of British Columbia, a first-year student getting a Bachelor of Arts, as a domestic student’s tuition, pays about $9,500 per year.

BC is out with a reminder today to say money is available for people impacted by the first atmospheric river of the season, which happened this October. The frightening and overwhelming rainstorm caused rapid flooding, a sinkhole, landslides, and a fatal mudslide. Now, the province is letting people know that disaster financial assistance (DFA) is available for eligible people in parts of the province.
