    HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu is cracking down on illegal game rooms. On June 19, Mayor Rick Blangiardi signed three new bills into law that enhance penalties and gives the city the opportunity to shut down illegal game rooms more effectively. In the last year, the Honolulu Prosecutor’s office says the Honolulu Police Department was able to shut down 60 game rooms. “We take out one [game room] and they open somewhere else,” explained HPD Maj. Ray Ikehara.

    PUPUKEA, Hawaii (KHON2) — The state claims over 1,000 bone fragments, said to be Iwi Kūpuna, were disturbed and destroyed at a North Shore home in May. Now, the state is seeking a restraining order against the homeowner and contractor. Court documents state that on May 1, a contractor and his team were digging out ground and constructing a new septic system at a property on Ke Iki Road when bones were discovered.

    HONOLULU (KHON2) — If you see workers injecting coconut palms at parks in Honolulu, don’t be alarmed — it’s part of a preventative treatment to protect the trees from the invasive Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB). Roughly 800 palms in parks from Kakaako to Ala Moana are being injected with Xytect insecticide, which is designed to protect them from the invasive beetles.

The scenic coastal Honoapiʻilani highway is a single two-lane highway that currently serves as the primary access route to and from west Maui, and for years the five-mile stretch has been impacted by storms, waves and high tide events.
