A bear, an elephant, a book, and an atom: not the set-up to a bar joke, but features of a crest unveiled today as the University of Warwick’s new logo for its 60th anniversary. The “evolved brand” was unveiled in an exhibition held in Warwick Arts Centre’s Helen Martin Studio, where digital screens replayed eye-catching close-ups of the crest’s constituent parts.

In May 1985, a story titled ‘Bomb Scare’ appeared on the side of The Boar’s front page, after an incident the week before which saw Warwick Arts Centre evacuated due to a mysterious phone call.

A performance by Jimmy Carr at the Warwick Arts Centre was disrupted by members of Warwick Stands With Palestine (WSWP) on Friday 16 May, just days before the group stood down their week-long encampment. WSWP protestors made their way up to a position below the Butterworth Hall stage before Carr began a performance of his ‘Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny’ tour.

Warwick will appear in the hotly-anticipated final of this year’s University Challenge tonight, as they fight to become champions of the prestigious show for a third time. The 28 UK universities which participated in this year’s series have now been whittled down to two, with Warwick set for a final showdown against Christ’s College, Cambridge.

First-year student Oliver Ansell-Hodges will begin his journey ‘driving for Ukraine’ today as part of a convoy of local volunteers transporting vital humanitarian aid to the country. Ansell-Hodges, who studies History and Politics, spoke to The Boar about his motivations for undertaking the 1,300-mile journey, which will take him from Warwick to Leżajsk, on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

According to Warwick Food Group, the new store “will conveniently serve up an extensive range of quality, fresh, healthy produce, Fairtrade products, and everyday essentials alongside a strong focus on world food covering South Asian, East Asian, Eastern European, North American & Caribbean, Halal and Mediterranean cuisines”.

Reform UK has become the largest party in Warwickshire following Thursday’s local elections, with the Conservatives’ eight-year hold on Warwickshire County Council coming to an end. The Council includes Leamington Spa, Warwick, and Kenilworth, and has control over bin collections and social services throughout the region, alongside other responsibilities.

Warwick Students’ Union (SU) has given another update on the result of the Presidential election almost 50 days after voting ended, confirming that “an indicative timescale” for the result will now be “mid-May”. Originally citing a “procedural irregularity” on election night (7 March), the SU has now confirmed that the delay – criticised by many – was due to the start of an investigation into a complaint submitted during election week.

When it comes to posting career updates, the average LinkedIn user has two motives. For one, sharing experiences is the most effective way to bulk up your professional image, bound to be scrutinised by the prospective employer. LinkedIn-posting is, however, equally a praise-seeking pastime. The platform trades in ‘look-at-me’ announcements and congratulatory comments. So much so, that after opening the app and scrolling the home page for a while, positivity becomes too much. It becomes toxic.
