Countless hours of InDesign and tireless work by writers have paid off as The Boar celebrates being Highly Commended for Best Publication at the 2025 Student Publication Association (SPA) National Awards. The Boar also took home the win for Best Newspaper Design, while outgoing Editor-in-Chief Luke Chapman was recognised with two Highly Commended gongs for the Billy-Dowling Reid Award for Outstanding Commitment and Best Reporter.

Rules surrounding a new measure which will see societies fined for cancelling circles have been softened following criticism that the move would “disproportionately” affect smaller societies. A joint statement, issued by the Students’ Union (SU) Vice-Presidents for Societies and Sports, Joe Stanley and Louis Gosling, said that they “recognise the distress” that has been caused by the announcement of the new measure, but added that it would not be scrapped completely.

Social secretaries have been left scrambling to confirm circling allocations following the sudden announcement of a new system which will see societies fined for cancelling their Wednesday night socials. An announcement made by the Students’ Union (SU) on a Facebook group for society exec members seemed to confirm that the measure would be implemented immediately, with societies having 48 hours to confirm circling allocations for term three.

It also brings many cultural and religious events and celebrations – from St Patrick’s Day to Easter, there’s always something to celebrate.
