Airport graduate picks building bridges over shot at pro baseball

Professional baseball came knocking and Karter Fitzpatrick said, “No thanks.”The Airport graduate went on to star at Wayne State, graduating in May of last year. A friend talked him into giving the United States Professional Baseball League a try. After a handful of starts there, he got word that that the Colorado Rockies had purchased his contract. “They offered me a contract, but I did not sign,” Fitzpatrick said. “I decided not to pursue it.

Ryan Marino is returning to coach Airport High School's boys basketball team after a seven-year hiatus. Marino previously coached at Airport for seven seasons and Monroe High School for three seasons. CARLETON – Ryan Marino is older and wiser. Marino became a varsity boys basketball coach at a Division 1 high school at the age of 25. Nearly two decades and three children later, he has a new perspective on coaching and life. He believes the time is right to get back into coaching.

MONROE – Tuesday was Senior Night for Monroe’s girls soccer team. It was fitting that the seniors took charge of a 9-0 win over Bedford. The Class of 2025 accounted for seven of the goals with Emily Eshenroder netting four, Claire Charnock two and Rowan Stamper one. The seniors also were a big part of the shutout with Alexis McMahon leading the defense in front of Ally Younglove, who notched her eighth shutout of the season.
Former Bedford teacher, coach Scott Earl remembered with color run

TEMPERANCE — The sudden death of beloved Bedford High School teacher and coach Scott Earl early last year left many in the community wondering how they could best honor his legacy. Running was the answer. The school’s student council organized the Scott Earl Memorial Color Run to honor the former track and cross country coach. The inaugural event last spring drew more than 360 runners and raised nearly $12,000.
