A year ago, seven-year-old Lydia was walking to post a letter with her dad when she was savagely attacked by an XL bully that had escaped from a neighbour's garden. Matt says the day turned to horror in an instant, telling us he first saw the escaped dog out of the corner of his eye and within seconds it was "attached" to his daughter's arm, biting her three or four times. He says the dog kept lunging for Lydia and in a frantic effort to stop it mauling his daughter, he had to "lie on top of it".

A prolific former shoplifter who stole "tens of thousands" of pounds' worth of goods has said he regularly sold stolen items to other shops. Ross, who has 15 convictions for shoplifting but has never been to prison, estimated he stole goods worth £300 every day which he would then sell on to fund his crack cocaine and heroin addiction.

The demand for children's winter essentials such as shoes and coats has trebled in a year, a charity has said. Yorkshire Children's Charity said there were "more families than ever" who had asked for help so far this winter. It said it planned to donate Christmas presents to more than 1,000 children who would otherwise go without. Charlotte Farrington, from the charity, said if parents struggled to give gifts, "the chances are they're really struggling to provide for basic needs".

Leeds Christmas Market has opened in the city for the first time since 2019. Up to 2m visitors are expected to visit stalls across the city centre between now and Christmas, organisers said. In previous years the market has been based in Millennium Square, but for 2023 traders will be spread across central Leeds. About one in four of the 120 market stalls will host a Yorkshire-based trader, organisers added, with the event running until 22 December.
