One person was killed Sunday when a car ran off a Midlands road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The single-vehicle collision happened at about 2 a.m. in Lee County, Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover said Wednesday. A 2013 Nissan Altima was driving south on Spring Hill Road, according to Glover. Near the intersection with Shiver Pond Road the Nissan ran off the right side of Spring Hill Road then crashed into an embankment before flipping over, Glover said.

A tip that drugs were being shipped from California to South Carolina led to a recent bust and an arrest, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. On Tuesday, deputies “dismantled a major drug operation in Aiken County,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Multiple strands of raw marijuana, along with several thousand marijuana THC infused gummies and vape pens — all with an estimated street value of around $500,000 — were seized, according to the release.
Male riding bicycle killed in crash in downtown Columbia, SC police say

A male was killed Wednesday in South Carolina when the bicycle he was riding was involved in a crash with a cement truck, according to the Columbia Police Department. High school teacher arrested for inappropriately texting student, SC police say

A teacher at a high school in South Carolina was arrested Wednesday for sending inappropriate text messages to a student, according to the Sumter Police Department. Torey A. Shannon, a 42-year-old Sumter resident, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said in a news release. Shannon is a teacher at Sumter High School, police told The State. He’s a Career & Technology teacher, according to the school’s website.
Missing Richland County man hasn’t been seen in over a week, SC sheriff says

A search is underway for a missing South Carolina man whose safety could be at risk. Kelvin Corbin was publicly reported missing by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday. The 61-year-old has not been seen for more than a week, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. Corbin was last seen April 29, on Liliana Drive, according to the release. That’s in Columbia, near North Brickyard Road, not far from Two Notch Road.
South Carolina man killed in early morning shooting, coroner says

A South Carolina man was killed early Wednesday morning in a shooting, according to the Sumter County Coroner’s Office. Robert Dustin Burleson, 43-year-old Sumter County resident, is the man who died, Coroner Robbie Baker said in a news release. The shooting happened at about 5 a.m., at 24 Dink Street, according to the release. That’s in Sumter, in the area between U.S. 15 and U.S. 521. Burleson died at the scene from injuries he sustained from a gunshot wound, Baker said.
SC woman took thousands from vulnerable adult for personal use, officials say

A Midlands woman was recently arrested on multiple charges after more than $10,000 was stolen from a vulnerable adult, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said Monday in a news release. On Monday, Camden resident Shanna V. Brown was charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and breach of trust with fraudulent intent (value $10,000 or more), according to the release.
Human remains found behind an SC home have been identified, coroner says

Months after human remains were discovered behind a South Carolina home the Aiken County Coroner’s Office said an identification has been made. The body parts were positively identified as the homeowner, 73-year-old Daniel Reibsome, the coroner’s office said Tuesday in a news release. Neither the cause of death nor the manner of death have been determined and both remain under investigation, according to the release. But no foul play is suspected in Reibsome’s death, the coroner’s office said.

Two people were killed early Tuesday morning in a crash on Interstate 95 that left another person hospitalized, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The two-vehicle collision happened at about 12:45 a.m. on a stretch of I-95 in Orangeburg County, said Master Trooper William Bennett. Both a 1987 dump truck and a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox were driving north on I-95, according to Bennett.

A woman from North Carolina was visiting friends in Columbia when she was shot and killed during a wanted man’s crime spree that didn’t end until he was pulled from a burning house that he’d set on fire, according to police. Logan Federico, a 22-year-old from Waxhaw, North Carolina, was staying with a friend at a home in the 2700 block of Cypress Street when a man broke in and shot her, Columbia Police Department Chief Skip Holbrook said Monday evening during a news conference.
