Bob Gordon traveled to Ramona from San Diego to practice a millennia-old sport. This isn’t something anyone can just start doing in one day — it takes years of training along with federal and state licensing. The Bulldog Student Store on the Ramona High School campus has been giving students who are part of the Adult Transition Program some work experience and money for activities. On top of that, the students have taken ownership of their jobs and have also been using the money they earned to find ways to help others.

Ramona High School senior Ryan Truman decided to continue pursuing his love for baseball at Luther College in Iowa. He signed his letter of intent to play for the team on March 6 with his coach, family and girlfriend present. Truman started playing baseball at 5 years old, according to his father, Mark Truman. After several years of playing with the Ramona Pony League, Truman began playing travel baseball at 10 and has been on the Ramona High baseball team all four years of high school.

A former search-and-rescue plane for the U.S. Coast Guard will be making its new home away from the sea at Cal Fire’s Air Attack Base in Ramona. The C-130 air tanker is one of seven that will be joining Cal Fire’s fleet of aircraft used to fight fires. These massive planes are faster and can deliver over three times more fire retardant than the two S-2T’s at the Ramona base, said Cal Fire Captain Brent Pascua. “They can fly longer, they don’t need to land and refuel as often,” Pascua said.
