I’ve recently been mulling over the idea of film as a liturgy. I don’t mean this in the literal sense, suggesting film is sacred in and of itself. It just struck me that films have a way of becoming annual traditions. Watching It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown every Halloween, A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve, Groundhog Day on Groundhog Day, or 1776 on Independence Day are things I choose to do every year because they bring structure.
