I was first diagnosed with damage to my cerebrum and cerebellum in June of 2021, and had to cancel a trip with John Fugate and Brian Swinford to the summer all-star game in Denver. it was rough. We were going to popularize the SFGN van and promote our paper and magazine, The Mirror, at gay festivals nationwide, from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. Recovering from 2 brain surgeries in past week, listening to @MLB eyes closed at night after 60 years as a Brooklyn little leaguer, announcer, umpire, now older man wheelchair bound- who cares? So much enjoying love, energy, enthusiasm of MLB broadcasters; keeping me at plate. https://t.co/fbQn4BSvXa

RT @SFGN: LOCAL: Last week @normkent underwent brain surgery to remove a benign, but aggressive, tumor, that was growing. https://t.co/Jg6…

He did not go gentle into that good he stood up and made the fight he was right To his colors he was true and this is exactly what I must do make it heard everywhere find my name And make me heard. Like a bird sail high I won’t easily die I shall fly way to go john way to go

Terribly sad to hear of the passing of John Stearns. We did not expect him to be able to travel to Old Timers Day but he was insistent. He wanted to see his friends one more time. He coached first base and even took some swings in the cage. The Dude right up to the end. RIP.
