We’d been driving a few hours. The warning signs were flashing, backs aching, bladders full. Time to stop. We were headed to Branson, Mo. Branson is the Las Vegas of the Ozarks. But think Vegas sans gambling, and with a “heapin helpin” of southern, family, values. Outside Branson, we saw a huge sign screaming “Discount Show Tickets.” My wife craves discounts, and those warning signs persisted. We stopped. As we stepped into the building, we entered the Timeshare Zone.

IOWA CITY — Johnson County Meals on Wheels is back to delivering meals five days a week to seniors after temporarily reducing delivery days earlier this summer due to a volunteer shortage. Cedar Rapids-based Horizons, which administers the program, said in a news release Monday that an “influx of volunteers” signed up to take on routes, allowing the organization to return to regular hot meal service five days a week.
