The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in the Eastern Cape, has confirmed that it will challenge the High Court’s decision to acquit controversial pastor Timothy Omotoso on all charges. Omotose and his two co-accused were let free after the Gqeberha High Court found the state had bungled the case against them. The trio was facing 32 charges including rape, racketeering, human trafficking and assault.

The police have arrested five men following a protest at the Loftus stadium in Hatfield, Tshwane district. The suspects will be facing charges which include public violence, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property. On Sunday, just after 16:30 during a soccer match halftime, a group of about 150 people started protesting. Police approached the protesters to try to talk to them, but they allegedly turned violent, started hurling objects at the police.

A South African Police Service (SAPS) trainer has been arrested after allegations of rape surfaced. The trainer from the SAPS academy in Tshwane was removed to ensure the safety of trainees on Thursday. According to the police, the alleged incident occurred on Tuesday. Police in Gauteng arrested 16 suspects in areas such as Eldorado Park, Sophiatown, and Booysens between April 28 and May 4. Among the arrests, three (3) suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Five (5) suspects arrested in Eldorado Park, four (4) in Sophiatown, and one (1) in Florida, all for possession of suspected illegal substances.
