The Supreme Court has overturned the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja that recognised Julius Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP). In a unanimous decision delivered yesterday in Abuja, a five-member panel of the apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to affirm Abure’s position as LP’s chairman.

The Supreme Court judgement on the legitimate national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has left the contending actors – Hon Sunday Ude-Okoye and Senator Samuel Anyanwu – claiming victory. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) declared that the apex court’s judgement affirmed the party’s supremacy in the matter which recognises Ude-Okoye as the national secretary.
