Chelsea strengthened their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, who are now without a win in eight matches. The game started at a ferocious pace and it was Chelsea who went ahead early with the first shot of the game. The goal was all about Marc Cucurella, who won the ball ahead of Jaden Philogene with a strong challenge.

Pep Guardiola suffered a fifth straight defeat for the first time in his managerial career as Manchester City's crisis deepened following a heavy 4-0 home defeat by Tottenham. There was a celebratory mood around the Etihad before kick-off as Man City midfielder Rodri showed off his Ballon d'Or trophy on the pitch. There was also the news of Guardiola's new two-year deal to stay with the Premier League champions and the positive atmosphere translated onto the pitch in the early stages.

Manchester City have lost three consecutive games in a season for the first time since April 2018 following Tuesday's 4-1 Champions League reverse against Sporting. The defeat is City's worst since a 5-2 thrashing by Leicester four years ago. It is only the third time a Pep Guardiola team has shipped four goals in a Champions League game.
