A dream over 20 years in the making: on December 20, 2023, the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) unanimously appointed Dr. R. Lorraine “Laurie” Bernotsky as the university’s 16th president — officially making her the second female president in the university’s over 150 year history.

Nestled behind frosted glass, encased within the stone walls of the infamous castle building officially known as Phillips Memorial Building, lays the President’s office. The Quad sat down with President Fiorentino on Feb. 9th for his final interview before his retirement on June 30. President Fiorentino is wrapping up his 41st year at West Chester University. Of course, not all of that time was spent as president.

On Monday, Sept. 25 the White House held its first Campus Press Briefing of the 2023-2024 academic year. Student journalists from across the country attended via Zoom to hear from Biden-Harris administration officials and were encouraged to pre-submit questions about matters important to their communities. After reviewing the submissions, administrators decided upon focusing the briefing around college affordability, the climate crisis and student mental healthcare.
