Around 550 customers in Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties remain without power after Thursday's thunderstorm. The storm initially knocked out power for over 30,000 customers. JCP&L expects to restore power to all remaining customers by 1 p.m. Sunday. ENGLISHTOWN -- Police chief Peter S. Cooke has resigned after pleading guilty to illegally accessing a law enforcement database for non-law enforcement purposes. He will enter the state’s Pretrial Intervention Program, which provides first-time offenders a path to dismiss all charges if the offenders complete a list of conditions set by the court. Cooke was arrested on November 1, 2024, according to the complaint.

COLTS NECK -- A physical altercation between a planning board member and the now deputy mayor last November during a municipal government conference ended with the township voting to remove the board member at a meeting last month. The township cited a workplace violence policy as the reason for the removal of planning board member Kris Lukowitz after a fight with committeeman, now Deputy Mayor, Michael Viola.

Despite similar platforms - each sees overdevelopment and taxes as the major issues - a slate of three newcomers is working to oust first-term incumbents. In addition, the brother of one of the incumbents had sued to prevent one of the newcomers from appearing on the primary ballot.
