OLD LYME —The Old Lyme Town Band (OLTB) sounds off its 50th anniversary season with a free gala concert in the auditorium of Lyme-Old Lyme High School on Saturday, April 26, at 7 p.m. All are welcome and there is no charge for admission. it was Michele Smith Dickey of Old Lyme—a member of the current band—who conceived the idea of re-forming the band in 1975 after a 65-year hiatus. She notes there were about 30 musicians at that time and the first volunteer conductor was Donald Janse.

MOHEGAN SUN–Top-seeded Shepaug Valley completed their unbeaten season Saturday, capping it with victory in the CIAC Division V State Championship when they soundly defeated Old Lyme 58-46. This was a first-time state tournament win for Shepaug Valley. The Wildcats were defending champions having won the Division V title last year under then-21-year-old coach Brady Sheffield, who was in his first year as coach at that time.

Old Lyme will now play in the Division V State Championship against top seeds Shepaug Valley at Mohegan Sun with a 12:30 p.m. tip-off.

WATERFORD, CT—Tonight in a close-fought CIAC Class V state semifinal, Brady Sheffield’s third-seeded boys’ team defeated #2 seeds Grasso Tech 77-71. Old Lyme will now play in the Division V State Championship against top seeds Shepaug Valley at Mohegan Sun at a date and time to be determined. Shepaug defeated #5 Thomaston 70-54 in the other semifinal this evening. Sophomore Eddie Fiske scored a remarkable, game-high 35 points for the Wildcats and junior Colman Curtiss-Reardon added 14.
