Some of Europe’s major offshore wind developers including RWE and TotalEnergies are backing a major project to study the wake effect on wind power development in the North Sea. They are supporting German research institute Fraunhofer IWES' EuroWindWakes project, which was launched late last year to better understand the wake effect and improve outcomes for wind power in the North Sea and beyond.

Equinor and Polenergia have reached financial close on two massive offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea. The Norwegian oil firm and Polish energy developer said today (23 May) they had made final investment decisions on the 720MW Bałtyk 2 and 720MW Bałtyk 3 projects. Both wind farms are being financed with packages worth more than €3 billion apiece, Equinor said.
