    The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has proclaimed five chieftaincy titles, marking the beginning of a new dawn in Benin. Oba Ewuare II also appointed Pa Billi Ehigiator to handle traditional functions in Abudu Community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area on behalf of the Benin Palace. Pa Ehigiator is to serve pending final resolution of the dispute over the Odionwere (community head) by the Oba.

    The Edo State government has inaugurated the Primary Healthcare Drug Revolving Fund Committee (DRF) to make drugs and other healthcare essentials available and affordable to the people.  Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDPHDA) Dr. Osoikhia Coulson, said the governor remained committed to strengthening primary healthcare. He urged the committee to  put measures in place to ensure successful implementation and sustainability of the DRF programme.

    Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to allow state governments implement the planned establishment of National Forest Guard. It said allowing them to implement the policy would be part of the decentralisation of the country’s security architecture. This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of Afenifere caucus meeting held at the Akure home of its leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

    The eight candidates of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) abducted  by pirates along the Bille waterways in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State have been rescued after spending 21 days in captivity. Also, suspected kidnappers who abducted three members of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry at Kasemola, Ogbese axis in Akure North Local Government Area have demanded the payment of N15million ransom before they are released.

    Angry farmers yesterday stormed the streets of Akure, the Ondo State capital to protest the killing of four farmers by gunmen suspected to be herdmen. Bodies of the victims were dumped on the streets adjacent to the Governor’s Office by the protesters. The farmers were said to have been killed in the morning at Thirteen-Thirteen Farming Settlement at Ajagbusi, Ala Elefosan in Akure North Local Government Area.
