The office of the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF) and the Federal Government may not yet have been served summons on the suit filed by 11 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminilayi Fubara, according to indications yesterday. Also being challenged by the PDP governors is the President’s declaration of a state of emergency rule in Rivers.

Rivers State Government has advised youths to enrol during the ongoing military recruitment. It assured the recruitment team from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, led by Brig.-Gen. Wito Nzidee, of its commitment to persuade youths to enrol in the 89 Regular Recruitment Intake for Trades/Non-Tradesmen and Women. The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. lbibia Worika, spoke yesterday during a visit to his office in Port Harcourt by the team from the Army Headquarters.

The police yesterday dispersed defiant protesters who stormed the streets of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Port Harcourt in Rivers State to register their displeasure against some action by the government. The protesters took to the streets in four cities as they earlier planned despite warnings by the police that their agitation was “ill-conceived and mischievous”.

A cache of arms has been seized by the military. This followed the foiling of a plan to bomb another oil pipeline in Rivers State. Eight suspects have been arrested. A joint security force set up following the March 18 emergency rule declaration thwarted attempts by miscreants to attack the oil facility. Six people held by the arrested suspects were set free. The arms, ammunition and other items recovered from the suspects were displayed by the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.
