Large fires dataWildfire data collected by the U.S. Forest Service spanning nearly 30 years details the causes and corresponding sizes of wildfires here in Chelan and Douglas counties. The majority of fires - more than 80% of the total 1,725 recorded wildfires - between 1992 and 2020 were 10 acres or smaller. Dozens of small wildfires crop up every year and are attacked quickly, manmade or natural, but the trend among the larger wildfires measuring larger than 100 acres is split in terms of cause.

A Wenatchee mural on Fifth Street and located east of the BNSF Railroad was demolished Tuesday to make way for new apartments. The mural was painted by Kamryn Corulli and Rebecca Durham and had been a staple of the waterfront property there since 2011. The 5.2-acre parcel is owned by Grandview Riverfront Village II LLC, which is owned by real estate developer Scott Wammack. The project appears to be an expansion of the Riverfront Village Apartments located nearby on North Worthen Street.
