    Childcare providers in Wales have warned they might close without more financial help. The businesses across a large part of south Wales have united to tell the Welsh government that the support it offers fails to cover their costs. Ellis Jenkins, who runs a nursery in Newport, said costs had gone up 40% in recent years, and it was facing an annual shortfall of more than £30,000.

    Residents evacuated from an estate where a sinkhole has appeared have spoken of their "devastation" as they face the possibility of being out of their homes for Christmas. The sinkhole has swallowed up part of the driveway of a bungalow on Nant Morlais in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, along with a section of pavement and road.

    A former Welsh football referee has said the abuse he received on the job made him "question if it was worth it". Sean Regan, who spent six months in the profession before quitting, said there was “a real culture problem”. The 40-year-old added: “I don’t think we can be proud to be involved in football.”It comes as a committee of grassroots referees have refused to officiate games this weekend and two leagues in Cardiff have postponed matches in solidarity with them.

    Around 1,500 stretches of Welsh roads could be considered to have speed limits put back to 30mph a year after they were reduced to 20mph, BBC research shows. More than 10,500 requests have been received by Welsh councils from residents to reassess roads that saw their limit lowered when the policy was introduced in September last year.
