Elissa Hubbard, 38, spent what was meant to be the happiest day of her life in 2021 hidden away gambling as part of an addiction that - at its peak- cost her £40,000 a year. It comes as BBC analysis suggests about one in five gambling premises are in Wales’ poorest areas.

    A former Welsh football referee has said the abuse he received on the job made him "question if it was worth it". Sean Regan, who spent six months in the profession before quitting, said there was “a real culture problem”. The 40-year-old added: “I don’t think we can be proud to be involved in football.”It comes as a committee of grassroots referees have refused to officiate games this weekend and two leagues in Cardiff have postponed matches in solidarity with them.

These Aesculapian snakes originally escaped from the Welsh Mountain Zoo, in Colwyn Bay, Conwy, around 50 years ago and there have been a total of 240 snakes found in the surrounding area since. The large snakes can grow up to 6ft (1.8m), though the largest one recorded in Wales was 5ft (1.5m).

    A powerful solar storm has once again provided spectacular views of the Northern Lights across Wales. There were sightings across the length of Wales, from Anglesey to Swansea. This particular aurora was triggered by a huge solar flare which erupted on Tuesday with the solar wind buffeting the Earth's magnetic field. The Northern Lights are normally seen at high latitudes, but this storm was so strong the aurora was seen as far south as Switzerland and Italy.

    A terraced house by the Welsh valleys that went up for auction with a guide price of nothing has sold for £50,000. The three-bedroom, burned-out shell in New Tredegar, Caerphilly county, had 15 people bidding on it. Before going under the hammer, it was described as being "in a very sorry state of repair", but that did not put off potential buyers.
