Rents rose by an average of 5.7% last year, according to the latest report from property website Daft.ie. In Dublin, rents in the final quarter of the year were 4% higher than a year earlier, at an average of €2,481 a month. Cork city rents were up by 10%, in Galway city they were up 9.9%, and in Limerick city they were up 19%. The overall increase of 5.7% is down slightly from 6.8% in 2023.

A 28-year-old man has been charged after a teenager was left in a critical condition following an assault outside a bar in the Co Antrim village of Waterfoot. Police received a report of the 19-year-old victim being unconscious in the Main Street of the village just after 1.25am on Saturday. Officers believe an altercation took place outside the pub following an argument inside the licensed premises.
