The Waterford minor hurlers suffered their first loss of the campaign on a wet Friday night as Cormac Deane fired Cork into the Munster final with eight points from play (five in the second half). James O’Connor’s side led 1-13 to 1-10 in the 41st minute when Jamie Shanahan found the top corner of the net, but the home side responded emphatically. The Rebels outscored the Déise by eleven points to two over the remainder of the contest.

Back-to-back McCarthy Insurance Group Cork JBFC (inter-division) titles for Douglas in Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday. Fielding a new team - with the exception of Eoin O’Flynn who started last year’s final - they were more clinical, while enjoying a nice mixture of youth and experience. Goleen’s wayward shooting did not help them, as they suffered a second consecutive final defeat to Douglas.

Tracton, relegated from the Premier junior hurling championship last year, made an immediate return courtesy of their hard-fought Co-Op Superstores Cork JAHC final triumph in Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday night. Ronan Walsh gave an exhibition of free-taking, the ultra-reliable corner-forward returned ten points (nine from placed balls) in testing conditions. The weather had continued to deteriorate all evening, so both teams must be complimented on managing the elements as best they could.

The Cork champions maintained a relentless performance level to burn off Wolfe Tones na Sionna despite the six-day turnaround from their county success. They celebrated until Tuesday, earmarked Wednesday for recovery, returned to the pitch Thursday, and advanced to a Munster final on Saturday.

The Cork champions were merited winners as they maintained a relentless performance level despite the six-day turnaround in a game that wasn’t without controversy. The Clare double winners had a penalty overturned entering the final quarter which, if converted, would’ve narrowed the gap to one.

Carrigaline controlled this game for more than 50 minutes and lived on their nerves for the remainder in a two-point victory over Bishopstown. Michael Meaney’s league champions were hampered by the absence of Cork footballer Brian O’Driscoll due to injury but looked comfortable winners when building up an eight-point lead. Their goal punished an error with a 40-yard Niall Coakley effort into the unguarded net.

Consistency - on both sides of the house. A fifth semi-final in succession secured by the Barrs. A fourth quarter-final defeat in six years for Ballincollig. The Barrs did as they always do at this stage of the championship. Ballincollig failed to do as they nearly always do at this stage of the championship. Cork football’s Big Three remain that bit beyond them. One member of that big three was in right trouble 10 minutes into the second half of this hugely entertaining quarter-final.

The Premier Intermediate champions of last year are one hour from a Senior A final appearance. Promoted Castlelyons continue to push themselves up the Cork ladder. Successive promotions remain a possibility after they survived an extraordinary penalty shootout that saw 26 shots on goal before white smoke emerged. Penalty No.26 was struck by Anthony Spillane. It was his third of the shootout. His first hit the net, the second was saved. He found the net with number three.

Mallow move on. They move to within an hour of premier intermediate county final involvement. Standing in their way are Watergrasshill. Mallow move on to that county semi-final with confidence enhanced. They were convincing winners here. From the fifth minute they led. It was a lead they never loosened their grip on. Mallow had as strong a start as they could have hoped for. And then they waned. Dungourney had as disastrous a start as they could have hoped for. And then they eventually got going.
