The Waterford minor hurlers suffered their first loss of the campaign on a wet Friday night as Cormac Deane fired Cork into the Munster final with eight points from play (five in the second half). James O’Connor’s side led 1-13 to 1-10 in the 41st minute when Jamie Shanahan found the top corner of the net, but the home side responded emphatically. The Rebels outscored the Déise by eleven points to two over the remainder of the contest.

Fielding a new team - with the exception of Eoin O’Flynn who started last year’s final - they were more clinical, while enjoying a nice mixture of youth and experience. Goleen’s wayward shooting did not help them, as they suffered a second consecutive final defeat to Douglas.

Tracton, relegated from the Premier junior hurling championship last year, made an immediate return courtesy of their hard-fought Co-Op Superstores Cork JAHC final triumph in Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday night. Ronan Walsh gave an exhibition of free-taking, the ultra-reliable corner-forward returned ten points (nine from placed balls) in testing conditions. The weather had continued to deteriorate all evening, so both teams must be complimented on managing the elements as best they could.
