Mother's Day was fabulous with sunshine as high pressure slides in from the northwest. High temps hovered around 70 with a northwest breeze. As high pressure is centered right over New England tonight, the wind dies down and we have a clear sky. This is a good recipe for radiational cooling. So our overnight lows drop a tad lower than they otherwise would when we have cloud cover. Lows in the 40s to 30s in the suburbs and northwest, with some 50s at the coast and city centers.

The wind dies down a bit today as we continue to see heavy rainfall. The low pressure center crosses over to the Gulf of Maine by afternoon and takes with it the heavy rain. The rain then breaks apart for a time between 2-4 p.m. from west to east. Some showers wrapping in behind the low in the evening. There may be some spots of sun in Boston near sunset. The wind picks up from northwest by the evening with gusts 20-30 mph. Highs today reach the low 60s with a drying wind and some late sun.

A slow-moving weather front, combined with some sunshine and a sea breeze front, make a great recipe for pop-up storms or showers Thursday afternoon through evening in Massachusetts. We don't expect anything severe, but any storm could bring us gusty wind, heavy rain or lightning. Keep an eye to the sky if you're out and about for the rest of the day. Temps have reached their highs for the day, and are falling at the coast to the low 50s Thursday evening.

Temperatures Sunday will be slightly cooler than Saturday, but still warm and muggy, with highs in the low to mid 70s inland, 60s at the South Coast. Plus scattered showers will be off and on anytime in the afternoon, picking up in intensity and in coverage by late evening. A few thunderstorms are possible, but we're not expecting anything severe. A near-stationary front has set up across northern New England.
