The low pressure system that brought heavy snow for parts of inland New England Saturday continues to affect our forecast Sunday. More precipitation, from drizzle to rain, is expected as our ocean storm is slow to move out. It's close enough to our east that waves of rain will swing in from offshore. The wind is more from the north, with gusts around 30 mph through the day, around 40 on the Cape & Islands through this evening.

What a storm on this Saturday! A coastal low strengthened fast offshore and to our south and swung in intense snowfall rates of 1-3" per hour this morning. Thundersnow also was heard across central Massachusetts with the intense snow bands over Worcester, Shrewsbury, and in MetroWest. How much snow? Higher elevations received 5-8" of snow across Worcester County, Mass. While Boston saw wet snowflakes, nothing stuck around once the sun came up. It's a true springtime snow maker.

The unsettled weather is here to stay. All. Weekend. Long. A coastal low is taking shape just south of New England and this brings us a gloomy, windy, chilly, and rainy (or snowy) weekend. How much snow did we get on Friday? The snowfall Friday morning was on track with higher elevations receiving 1-3 inches of wet spring snow on grassy surfaces while the roads remained wet and not white. The snow has already melted away for most.

Some warmer days are ahead in Boston as the morning thunder and rain heads offshore. A shower or two will linger in the forecast for Thursday afternoon, with a spotty shower around Massachusetts between 10 p.m. and midnight as a front pushes farther south. A gusty southwest wind between 30 and 40 mph ushers in the milder air and our highs reach the 50s to 60s with some sun breaking out late. Temperatures overnight remain in the 40s and 50s, with some patchy fog developing.

The airmass over New England has changed dramatically this Sunday. A cold front Saturday night and strong northwest winds have opened the door to cool and dry air. We have an elevated brush fire risk Sunday with humidity levels around 20% and the strong wind. Highs stay in the mid 40s even with Sunday sunshine, thanks to the gusty wind. Wind chills stay in the 20s to 30s across New England with a wind subsiding to near calm after sunset.

Breezy, cloudy, a spot shower and milder today across Boston. The @RedSox Home Opener Friday looks amazing: warm, breezy, partly cloudy! https://t.co/3fSqP3wL8O
