The City of Cockburn is trialling a social worker program at Success Library, after noticing an increase in people using libraries as a safe space. The WA Local Government Association is calling on the state government to increase funding for libraries to better reflect the services they offer. The pilot program will provide data that the library hopes will help secure ongoing funding to have social workers stationed there permanently. Libraries have always been sanctuaries.
